Introduction
About Hotline Chat
Hotline Chat offers emotional support and crisis intervention to people in emotional distress.
If you are in suicidal crisis or emotional distress and Hotline Chat’s chat service is not available or is “offline,” please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK(8255).
If you or someone you know is currently in the act of harming him/herself or someone else, or if they need immediate medical attention, please dial 9-1-1.
Hotline Chat offers two distinct services and terms of service are listed separately below for each service.
Chat Service:
Automatically Collected and Stored Information
If you do nothing during your visit but log onto the website, we will gather and store certain information about your visit automatically. This information does not identify you personally. We automatically collect and store information, similar to the following, concerning your visit
¦ The Internet domain (for example, “xcompany.com” if you use a private Internet access account or “yourschool.edu” if you connect from a university’s domain);
¦The type of browser and operating system used to access the site;
¦The date and time you accessed the site; and
¦If you linked to the website from another website, the address of that website.
This information is used to help make the site more useful to visitors, to learn about the number of visitors to the site, and the types of technology visitors use. We do not automatically track or record personally-identifiable information about website visitors.
Voluntarily Provided Information by the Visitor
We do not collect personally identifiable information unless you voluntarily provide it to us when you sign-in to Hotline Chat. If you provide your telephone number or other information for contact or other use by the Hotline Chat Specialist, this information will be stored in your record by the crisis center.
Privacy and Security
We take your privacy and security very seriously. Security controls, including encryption and authentication, are in place to ensure the protection of your information. Any information provided by you or collected on you will only be shared or disclosed in accordance with applicable Federal laws and/or state laws and regulations. Contractors may act on behalf of Sexual Assault Center’s Hotline Chat in administering Hotline Chat. Any contractor used will be subject to the same legal requirements and responsibilities for protecting the privacy and security of your information as Sexual Assault Center.
Interaction with Children
No personally identifiable information is collected from child visitors unless voluntarily submitted as a request for information or services. The information supplied is used to respond to the visitor’s inquiries or to provide services requested by the visitor. Any mentions of abuse of minors will be formally reported, per TN mandatory reporter rules.
AGREEMENT:
By entering this site, you expressly acknowledge and agree that neither Sexual Assault Center Hotline Chat nor any of its contractors, agents, or representatives are responsible for any personal information which you may enter over the Internet during transmission. Despite our efforts to protect your information some level of risk when communicating over the Internet is always present.
Because your participation in Hotline Chat is not medical care or treatment, neither Hotline Chat nor any of its contractors, agents, or representatives are responsible for any decisions or results of the decisions that you make while, as a result of, or after participating in Hotline Chat. This includes whether you choose to seek or not seek professional medical or psychiatric care, or to modify or terminate specific treatment that you currently are receiving based on the information provided by this service. If the Chat Specialist concludes that you are at imminent danger of harming yourself or others, the Chat Specialist will request your contact information (i.e. telephone number and/or address) so they can attempt to provide you with additional assistance, including sending local emergency services to you. As a visitor, you may refuse to provide this information If however, the Chat Specialist still believes you are at imminent danger of harming yourself or others, they may use other information available to them (e.g. your IP address) to help local emergency personnel locate you to provide you with further assistance.
Access to Hotline Chat and its resources is free to all.
Privacy
The Hotline Chat Privacy Policy is also available on the Hotline Chat website and is a part of these Terms and Conditions and is hereby incorporated into this document by reference.
Third Party Websites and Links
Hotline Chat provides links to mental health services located in various communities with the goal of helping families find the resources they need to resolve mental health issues. Our provision of links on the website does not constitute endorsement, sponsorship, or recommendation of the information or services found on any of these third party websites. Hotline Chat makes no guarantees as to the accuracy or quality of the information found on third party websites. Should you choose to rely on any information located on these third party websites, you do so at your own risk.
Changes to Terms and Conditions
Hotline Chat may from time to time make additions or alterations to these Terms and Conditions These changes will be displayed here, and will be effective once posted. We ask that you check these Terms and Conditions regularly.
Liability of Hotline Chat
HOTLINE CHAT DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESSED, IMPLIED, OR OTHERWISE. YOUR USE OF THE WEBSITE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. IN NO EVENT SHALL HOTLINE CHAT OR ANY OF ITS CONTRACTORS, AGENTS, OR REPRESENTATIVES BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, INCIDENTAL AND CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, PERSONAL INJURY/WRONGFUL DEATH, LOST PROFITS, OR DAMAGES RESULTING FROM LOST DATA OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION) RESULTING FROM THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE WEBSITE OR THE CONTENTS, INFORMATION OR SERVICES AVAILABLE ON OR THROUGH THE WEBSITE.
Any communication beyond that which is provided via the Hotline Chat website either received by or sent to a participating Hotline Chat contractor, agent, or representative is not considered Hotline Chat communication and is therefore not covered by the Hotline Chat Privacy Policy or Terms and Conditions of Use. Any such information you send or receive is subject to that individual contractor’s, agent’s, or representative’s applicable privacy policies and terms of service.
Hotline Chat makes no guarantee that the website will be free of viruses, spyware, or other destructive material, and is not liable for any damage to any hardware or software device, or for any inconvenience or difficulty, caused by use of this website.
Your sole remedy against Hotline Chat or any of its contractors, agents, or representatives for dissatisfaction with the website or any content thereon is to stop using the website.
General
These Terms and Conditions represent a complete agreement between you and Hotline Chat in respect of your use of this website and its content.
If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is held to be unenforceable for any reason, that provision shall be redrafted and this will not affect any other terms and conditions, which shall remain in full force and effect.
These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by the laws of the United States of America. Any action arising from the use of the website shall be brought in the jurisdiction of the USA.
